Second Man Sentenced After Hit Police Officer With Car

A Springfield man accused of having a role in an armed robbery that resulted in a police officer being run over in 2016 is being sentenced to prison.

Raquan Lopez received four to five years in state prison in Hampden Superior Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to armed robbery and assault and battery.

Co-defendant Derek Fernandes, of Rhode Island, who was accused of being the driver who was pulled over after the robbery of a 7-Eleven, pleaded guilty to the same charges last July and received the same sentence, according to prosecutors.

The officer, David Olszak, was hospitalized but was treated and released.
