UMass President Not Happy With Senate Budget

University of Massachusetts President Martin Meehan is slamming the Massachusetts budget that has been proposed by the state Senate.

The budget, released on Tuesday, falls about ten-million dollars short of what UMass was looking for from the state, plus it would require the university to freeze tuition and fees next year for in-state students.

Meehan says that would be devastating to the school and could result in layoffs and cuts to student services and financial aid.

The Senate is expected to debate a budget on May 21st.
