MGM Resorts is in talks to possibly buy Encore Boston Harbor, another casino that has not yet opened.
That's according to a statement released by Wynn Resorts officials on Friday.
Springfield City Councilor Michael Fenton says there is nothing to worry about now because that is what businesses do to protect market shares and value. He says that if it progresses past that then he will step in and help preserve the city's rights.
State law prohibits a company from holding more than one gaming license, which means MGM Springfield would have to be divested.
The talks are said to be in preliminary stages.
