Officer Due In Court For "Shoving" Incident

The Springfield police officer who was seen on video shoving a high school student is now facing charges in connection to the incident.

The Hampden County District Attorney's office says Angel Marrero faces counts of assault and battery and filing a false police report.

Springfield City Councilor praising Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood for her quick responses to the case. He says it is refreshing after what seems to be ages between allegations and charges.

Marrero wrote in a report that a physical confrontation was initiated by the 15-year-old student at Commerce High School, but surveillance video made public seemed to contradict that information.

Marrero is due in Springfield District Court to answer to the charges on June 21st.
