A former Hadley police officer is being sentenced for using unreasonable force during an arrest and then falsifying a report about the incident.
The Justice Department says Christopher Roeder, of Agawam, received a 14-month sentence in federal court in Springfield yesterday after he was convicted by a federal jury earlier this year.
Evidence presented at trial established that, in 2017, Roeder hit a man in the face while the arrestee was seated on a bench in the Hadley Police Department booking area, causing his nose to break in multiple places and requiring surgery.
