The U.S. Justice Department says the leader of a Springfield heroin-trafficking organization is pleading guilty.
Alberto Marte pleaded guilty to heroin distribution charges, a fentanyl distribution charge and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking case on Tuesday.
Sentencing is set for September.
Prosecutors said Marte presided over a trafficking group that had at least 17 members and direct contact with heroin supply sources in the Dominican Republic.
Four other co-conspirators have also pleaded guilty, according to the DOJ.
