The Chicopee Police Department is warning about a fake utility worker scam.
Authorities say a man posing as a gas company worker went to an elderly woman's home in the Fairview area yesterday and said her gas would be shut off if a payment was not made.
The woman asked for a phone number and the suspect left after giving her one, according to police reports.
The Chicopee PD reminds residents that legitimate utility workers do not show up to a home to demand payment.
