Bag Tax In Connecticut As Market Drops Bags All Together

Stores across Connecticut are required to start collecting a ten-cent fee for non-reusable plastic bags today.

The fee only involves checkout bags, while bags to hold deli products and small amounts of produce are exempt.

It also does not apply to just supermarkets, as retailers, restaurants and food trucks also must collect the dime.

The single use bags will be banned completely in the state in 2021 under the bill passed by the legislature this year.

Big Y officials have already pulled the single use bags.

They were planning on ending them next year but patrons received the idea very well and so they moved up the date for the change.
