Former Westfield police detective Brian Fanion plead not guilty this morning to first-degree murder in Hampden Superior Court.
He's charged in connection with the death of his wife, Amy Fanion, in May of 2018.
He's being held without bail with a pretrial hearing scheduled in January.
Fanion was arrested by state troopers last night.
Police had originally investigated the death as a suicide.
Prosecutors say Mr Fanion shot his wife then staged the crime scene as if it were a suicide.
