Fire Claims The Life Of Worcester Firefighter

A Worcester Firefighter is dead in a four alarm fire on Stockholm Street today.

Officials say they were called to a burning triple decker about 1 this morning where the building was fully engulfed.

Officials say Lt Jason Menard was part of the team that went into the burning structure. He rescued one person and went back inside to rescue a probationary firefighter when he was overcome by the smoke and flames.

Firefighters tried to save him but Menard died a short time later at the hospital.

He was scheduled to leave with his family on a Disney vacation today.

Lt Menard leaves behind his wife Tina and three children as well as his parents.

Fifteen people have been left homeless.

Officials have not released a cause of the blaze yet.
