Local Congressmen Weigh In On Iran Conflict

The Congressmen of Western Massachusetts reacted on Friday to President Trump ordering an airstrike killing Iranian top general Qassem Soleimani in Iraq. Representative Richard Neal said the action was taken without an authorized use of military force or the consultation of Congress, which he said is unacceptable.

Congressman Jim McGovern said there is no question Soleimani was a ruthless military commander with American blood on his hands, but that the strike was a serious and destabilizing escalation that could lead to war. Both want a public explanation of the strategy from the White House.

Meantime, in the House today, there is expected to be a vote on a resolution restricting what force can be taken by The President.

The White House says that the US acted properly.
