General Electric Inks Deal To Clean Up Housatonic River

An agreement is being reached to clean up the Housatonic River in Berkshire County.

General Electric is agreeing to pay 63-million dollars to a half-dozen towns along the river and will also work to remove sediment polluted by GE for decades.

The settlement was mediated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

It will allow local burial of the polluted sediment, a proposal that has faced opposition previously.
