A proposition two-and-a-half override passed by about a two-thirds majority in Northampton on Tuesday.
The two-point-five-million-dollar property tax override aims to help the city's operating budget.
Northampton Mayor David Narkewicz conducted a series of recent town halls to try and convince residents of the importance of the vote.
Those in favor of the measure say they know the importance of keeping schools strong.
Those that voted against the measure say they have to live within a budget and wonder why the city can't.
