Baker Not Ready To Decide Fate Of School Year

Governor Baker is not committing one way or the other on whether he will end the physical school year for students because of the coronavirus. Baker says we are not at that point yet.

He told reporters that he would be hesitant to rely on a “distance learning” protocol since communities are so different when it comes to the technology that they have. Governor Baker says the problem is that communities don't have the same capabilities in remote learning.

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont says that schools will be closed until May 20th. The Governor has indicated he might have to keep schools closed until the fall because of the pandemic, but he says there has been no final decision made.

School officials in both states have indicated that it was important to provide students, particularly seniors who play a sport and those who don't have closure for their athletic and high school education careers.

Governor Phil Scott in Vermont has already announced that schools would be closed until the fall. He said that the pressure on remote learning throughout the state was immense.
