MCAS Suspended Because Of Covid Crisis

The State Department of Education has suspended MCAS testing requirements and will modify graduation requirements for students set to graduate from high school this year.

The Department also is stopping the clock on district-wide improvement plans because of the pandemic.

Under the law that was signed Friday by the Governor, the new deadlines are May 15th but that can be adjusted by the Education Commissioner if needed.

A federal law allows a state to decide in time of emergency whether extensions or cancellations are needed.

In addition, the law will allow cities and towns to adopt monthly budgets for next fiscal year if they have not been able to adopt a full fiscal year budget.

That provision, commonly known as a "1/12th budget" is often used by state lawmakers.
