The number of unemployed people in Massachusetts amid the coronavirus pandemic continues to climb. Well over 70-thousand initial claims for jobless benefits were filed for the week ending April, 25th. Since March 15th, 722-thousand claims have been filed. In total, combining regular Unemployment Insurance and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, between March 15th and April 25th, the number of claims filed is over 893-thousand.
Trinity Health of New England says it's successfully treated and released 183 COVID-19 patients in the last week. In the last month, Trinity says it has treated and released over 500 coronavirus patients. It has not released information on the number of patients who have died. Trinity Health of New England operates in the Hartford/Springfield area including Mercy Medical Center and Weldon Rehabilitation hospitals in Springfield and Providence Behavioral Hospital in Holyoke.
