Families of residents of the Soldiers Home in Holyoke who died from coronavirus reject the defense made by the suspended chief.
Superintendent Bennett Walsh released e-mails this week he says prove the state was kept informed as the virus spread through the nursing home.
Families and employees of the home say Walsh failed to report or address the pandemic, leading to over 70 deaths. Walsh was placed on administrative leave by Governor Charlie Baker in late March because of the outbreak.
Attorney William Bennett, the former Hampden County DA who is the uncle of Walsh says that the paper trail shows that there was a plea for help but that the calls were rejected by state officials.
The Governor has withheld comment on the issue until after an independent review.
