Lawmakers Hear Testimony On Holyoke Soldiers' Home Legislation

An oversight and reform bill sponsored by Governor Charlie Baker for the Holyoke Soldiers' Home got a hearing on Beacon Hill on Tuesday.

The bill proposes expanding membership of the Soldiers' Home board, guaranteeing at least two have certain areas of expertise, and placing tougher requirements for a new superintendent, among other things.

Former HSH administrators testified yesterday before the Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs about the Senate bill, proposed in response to the deadly coronavirus outbreak at the facility.

Former Holyoke Soldier's Home deputy administrator John Paradis criticized the track record of the Baker administration in overseeing the veterans' home.
