UMass, Union Make Deal On Covid Layoffs

A deal has been reached between the University of Massachusetts and two labor unions to avoid layoffs.

The university had threatened to lay off about 450 workers after the Professional Staff Union and University Staff Association, which represent thousands of campus employees, mounted an aggressive organizing and activism campaign, according to one of the unions.

The agreement reportedly guarantees no layoffs through January, and the unions have agreed to have most members take two-week furloughs.
