Springfield Police Bring Change After Scathing Federal Report

The Springfield Police Department on Thursday outlined steps being taken to address a Department of Justice report about use of excessive force and poor reporting of it.

Among the steps taken: a longer period of time for internal investigations to be completed, a new online complaint system and a streamlined record-keeping system.

Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood also said over three-hundred officers are wearing body cameras.

Among the changes, a longer period of time to do investigations. Increased training and techniques.

The Springfield Mayor Dom Sarno says that what has happened in this city in the past can never happen again.
