AG Healey: Two Criminally Charged In Soldiers Home Pandemic Deaths

The Massachusetts Attorney General has concluded an investigation into the Holyoke Soldiers Home.

76 veterans living at the Soldiers Home contracted the coronavirus and died.

Two people are being charged.

Healey says criminal charges are being brought against Superintendent Bennett Walsh. In addition, the former Medical Director of the facility David Clinton is also being criminally charged.

Specifically the Attorney General says the consolidation of dementia wards --combining confirmed positive residents of the unit with those that did not have the virus led to the spread of the outbreak and the deaths of the veterans.

This is the first criminal case brought against medical officials during the pandemic.

The AG says that it was those actions, that directly led to the deaths of the veterans.

Healey says the veterans who died ---died under shocking circumstances.

She called it heartbreaking. Healey said she owed it to the families to open an investigation on behalf of the families.
