Superintendent Resigns At Holyoke Soldiers Home

Bennett Walsh, the once embattled head of the Holyoke Soldiers Home has resigned his post.

The move came just a couple of days before a Monday meeting when Trustees were expected to fire him.

With his resignation letter, Walsh submitting a memo defending his moves at the facility.

Walsh says combining two units with residents who had and didn’t have Covid19 was the only way to maximize staff.

Walsh says the facility was understaffed because many nurses had contracted the virus.

The move ends a showdown with the Trustees.

Meantime, Walsh faces a criminal indictment alleging criminal neglect.

He has not been arraigned yet.
