Coronavirus On The Rise--Doctor Says Shutdown Is Not An Answer

State officials are reporting 827 new coronavirus cases in the last day. More than 141-thousand people have now tested positive for the virus. Another 15 deaths were confirmed yesterday, with the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Massachusetts currently over 95-hundred. The three-day average of people hospitalized with COVID-19 remains just under 500.

In Springfield, Hampden County is closing in on eight-hundred coronavirus deaths. The death toll in the county was updated to seven-99 after one new death was reported by the state on Monday. Western Massachusetts has increased to one-thousand-75 COVID deaths overall. The region reported 57 new virus cases yesterday; all but six of them were from Hampden County.

Dr Mark Keroack, the president and CEO of Baystate Health Systems says he has heard the talk of people wanting to shutdown the country until the country is ridded of the coronavirus. The Doctor says most of the spikes are coming from young people in parties who spread the virus particularly among the older residents. The Doctor says shutting down the country would cause more problems than solve.
