Springfield Mayor Remembers Suprise October Snow Storm

Thursday will be the anniversary of the freakish October storm that dropped more than a foot of snow in the area and left tens of thousands without power.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno said, “October 29, 2020 will mark the 9th anniversary of the late pre-Halloween freak nor’easter that knocked out power to and for tens of thousands for days. This was the second major natural disaster to hit our Springfield in 2011 – the first being the devastating EF3 tornado on June 1, 2011. As we move to defeat our current surreal challenge of this COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, it is important to note that the resilience and strength of our residents and business community inspired my administration from cabinet heads to rank and file to persevere and lead then and now towards relief, recovery and promise. I thank you all for your continued understanding, cooperation and dedicated efforts. Your belief and invest in our Springfield is deeply appreciated. We did it before and we’ll do it again."
