Police Arrest Georgia Man For Trafficking Guns

Springfield Police closing the year by taking a substantial number of illegal guns off the street.

Officials say Springfield Police, along with agents from the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrested a Georgia man on a varity of charges. Police arresting Alidaud Whitehead of Jonesboro, Georgia on Firearms Trafficking charges.

Whitehead was arrested at the Amtrak Station, concluding an investigation that lasted several months. Agents confiscated ten firearms from Whiteheads backpack---several that were loaded ---while four of the guns contained high capacity magazines.

“This was excellent work by our Narcotics Detectives working with our Federal partner in the ATF. The investigation was in depth and this will hopefully slow the flow of illegal firearms across state lines into our city. We have seized more than 200 guns this year in our city and this type of local-federal collaboration will hopefully lead to this individual being held,” said Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood.

No arraignment information has been released.
