Congressman Asks For Extension To Filing Taxes

House Democrats are urging the Internal Revenue Service to extend the filing deadline for taxpayers beyond the current due date of April 15th.

Springfield Congressman Richard Neal and Representative Bill Pascrell of New Jersey are asking the IRS to extend the deadline as many Americans are set to receive unemployment benefits once President Biden's coronavirus relief bill is signed into law.

The bill would waive taxes on unemployment compensation for certain people who meet the income threshold.

Meantime, Congressman Neal says a vote on the total bill could happen as early as today.
