Lyft -Blue Cross Team Up For Rides To Vaccination Sites In Some Communities

Those in Springfield and surrounding communities are getting some help in the vaccination process. Officials say Bay State residents will have get free Lyft rides to their vaccination appointments.

The program is seen as a solution to those in disadvantaged neighborhoods that are not able to get to a mass vaccination site in the region.

Specifically, BCBS is joining forces with the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers to offer the program which will allow for vouchers of up to 50 dollars per ride-- a total of 100 dollars per vaccination visit.

A spokesman for the Health Insurer says that this is part of a million dollar project designed to get as many people vaccinated as possible.

There are three health centers that are participating in the program... The Holyoke Health Center...Caring Health Center in Springfield and the Hilltown Community Health Center in Huntington.

A call center is being developed to make the program as easy for residents as possible.
