Former Police Captain Found Guilty Of Stealing Evidence

A former West Springfield police captain has been found guilty of taking money from the evidence room.

The Massachusetts Attorney General's Office says Daniel Spaulding was convicted on Monday following a bench trial in Hampden Superior Court on the charge of use of official position to obtain an unwarranted privilege.

The A.G. says Spaulding turned over missing evidence bags with nearly 18-thousand dollars in cash which included bills that had Federal Reserve dates later than the dates the money was seized, indicating it had been replaced.

Sentencing is set for September.

The money has been returned.
