Following a 3-0 vote at the West Springfield Board of Health meeting Wednesday evening, an indoor mask mandate has been put into effect in the town of West Springfield. This new mandate will require all attendees to wear a face covering in all indoor public spaces, as well as private spaces open to the public.
While The Big E has yet to update their website to reflect the new policy, the organization has outlined its health and safety measures on its website.
"The Big E adheres to current Massachusetts and City of West Springfield COVID-19 regulations and guidance," The Big E writes, "and has taken action to protect the health and well being of our customers and employees."
Prior to the decision, Fair President Gene Cassidy said he expects there to be a masking requirement for the fair for patrons who are indoors. Cassidy said he does not expect this to be a banner year numbers wise. Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, he said he is always hopeful.
The Big E opens on Friday, September 17, and will run for 17 days.
