Judge Throws Out Case Against Soldiers Home Superintendent/Medical Director

A judge has dismissed all criminal charges against the two former top officials at the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke. Bennett Walsh was superintendent and Dr. David Clinton was medical director when 76 veterans died from coronavirus last year.

The men were charged with elder neglect and permitting bodily injury.

Attorney General Maura Healey sought indictments against Walsh and Clinton for combining dementia units over a staffing shortage as COVID was spreading.

Healey says she is disappointed by the ruling.

Family members say they don't understand why a judge would throw out the case and say that the decision forces them to restart the grieving process.
