Chicopee's Joe Wagner To Retire From Legislature At Session's End

Chicopee state Representative Joseph Wagner is not running for reelection.

The Democrat has served the 8th Hampden District since 1991.

Springfield Mayor Dom Sarno had worked on many transportation and infrastructure issues throughout the years.

“It’s ‘bittersweet’ to hear that my longtime friend State Representative Joe Wagner has decided to retire. As the Second Assistant Majority Leader in the State House of Representatives, Joe was very well respected and a listened-to voice for his district/Chicopee and Western Mass. Joe was very influential behind the scenes in helping me advocate for and move projects right here in Springfield. He will be missed and this is a big loss for our Western Mass area. Thank you, Joe and I wish you and your family good health and continued success.”

The 61-year-old Wagner says it is time to embrace new challenges in his life, but he says his work on Beacon Hill is not finished.
