Surprise Visit By Judge-But No Plan To Close Courthouse

Massachusetts Trial Court Chief Justice Jeffrey Locke toured the Roderick Ireland Courthouse in Springfield on Wednesday.

Locke did not make a public statement about the purpose of the visit, nor did he speak to reporters but a Trial Court spokesperson says there are no plans in place right now to close the building.

Attorneys and employees of the courthouse are expressing major health and safety concerns about the courthouse which have centered around the presence of mold.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno says he is aggravated by the snail's pace of decision making. "Bottom line here is the more and more information brought to my attention about the situation at the Roderick L. Ireland Courthouse, it is abundantly evident short term action must be undertaken immediately, not in 2024 ,and that a new state-of-the-art courthouse needs to be built ASAP right here in the downtown Springfield vicinity.”
