CT Congressman Proposes Energy Stipend For Weary Drivers

As the Massachusetts Senate prepares to debate it's own Gas Tax Holiday, similar to what the Connecticut General Assembly has done, Congressman John Larson has proposed a bill that would provide stimulus payments to Americans to offset soaring energy costs. Larson's bill would provide 100-dollars a month per person for tax filers and dependents, and would be issued in similar fashion to the 2020 and 2021 stimulus checks.

“Americans are feeling the impact at the pump of Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, and right now we must work together on commonsense policy solutions to ease the financial burden that my constituents are feeling,” said Representative Mike Thompson of California.

“The Putin Price Hike is putting strain on our economy, and I am proud to be working with Reps. Thompson and Underwood to introduce this legislation to provide middle-class Americans with monthly payments to ease the financial burden of this global crises," the Hartford Democrat, Larson said.

The rebate follows the same phaseout as the most recent Economic Impact Payments (EIPs):

$100 for single filers earning less than $75,000 and phased out to $80,000

$100 for joint filers earning more less than $150,000 and phased out at $160,000

Joint filers earning less than 150-thousand-dollars a year would qualify, with single filers earning under 75-thousand-dollars also eligible.
