Turn Around: State To Hire Consultant To Investigate Court House

The Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance is conducting a feasibility study for a new courthouse in Springfield.

Local officials are pushing for the project because they have serious health and safety concerns about working at the Roderick Ireland Courthouse.

A study has found that toxic, cancer-causing mold exists inside the 45-year-old building.

A suit that will be heard later this month seeks to close the current structure and build a new one because of toxic mold that has been found in the complex.

Governor Baker has already said that he does have concerns about the building but believes a 100 million dollar rehab rather than rebuild is appropriate.

No word on when the consultants will be on board.
