Congressman: Plenty Of Opportunity Exists At Northampton Hospital

Most of the Massachusetts delegation has signed a letter urging the Department of Veterans Affairs to reconsider the closing of the Northampton Veterans Hosptial.

Congressman Jim McGovern, who authored the letter says he is prepared to go to directly to the President in order to keep the facility open.

The letter says that many veterans would have to travel more than 2 hours and that with their age and afflictions, they would be unjustly burdened.

The March 14th report from the fed that recommended closing Northampton says that the services would be transferred to Newington Connecticut.

But outpatient services would go to Springfield.

The federal report says that it would cost 121 million dollars to rehab Northampton.

The letter says the decision does not take into consider its future potential.
