Settlement Reached- But Families Say Fight For Justice Continues

The state is paying 56-million-dollars to families of veterans at the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke who died or were sickened by coronavirus at the start of the pandemic.

More than 80 veterans died at the home, and each family will receive at least 400-thousand-dollars.

Families of other veterans who caught COVID and survived can collect at least ten-thousand-dollars.

The agreement requires approval by a federal judge before it will become final.

Meantime, some of the family members who lost loved ones in that facility say it is not about the money. It is about bringing those responsible for the deaths to justice.

A Superior Court Judge had dismissed the charges against the previous Superintendent and Medical Director. But the State Attorney General is appealing that decision.
