On The Brink Of The Finals - Spr Looks To Wrap Up Series With Laval Tonight

A goal by James Neal in overtime Saturday night has brought the Springfield Thunderbirds to the brink of the Calder Cup finals.

Now, with a win tonight at the Mass Mutual Center the Thunderbirds would make their first ever Calder Cup final appearance.

Neal said after the game that it was just a matter of the team baring down in the overtime, they did and were able to come away with the win.

Game time tonight at the Mass Mutual Center is 7:05.

Our coverage begins at 6:50pm with the pregame show here on Newsradio 560 WHYN.

If the Thunderbirds do wrap up the semis tonight, then they will await the winner of the Stockton - Chicago series.

That series is 3-2 for Chicago with what could be the deciding game Tuesday night.

If Stockton is able to pull off the comeback victory and plays Springfield, it will be a return to the area by Don Nochbaur.

The 63 year old former New England Whalers player, also played for the then Springfield Indians.

He is an assistant coach of Stockton.
