State Leaders React To Supreme Court Ruling

The reaction to the Roe v. Wade decision of the US Supreme Court has seen a wide range of reactions from Massachusetts.

Senator Ed Markey describes the U.S. Supreme Court ruling an overtly political act. He says it jeopardizes the health and freedom of millions of women.

Senator Elizabeth Warren says 70-percent of American voters support some form of abortion rights. She told CNN it's important to elect enough people in November to make Roe v. Wade the law again through an enforceable statute.

Governor Charlie Baker has quickly responded to the U.S. Supreme Court decision. He's signed an executive order to protect reproductive health access in Massachusetts. The governor says the order further protects abortion providers who serve out-of-state residents.

In Springfield, the Roman Catholic Bishop William Byrne in a statement said in part;

" We will continue to work to affirm this right, the right given by God alone that all life is sacred and intended.We will continue to support women and families facing a crisis pregnancy through the many ministries and services in the Diocese of Springfield.I also pray that those who are upset by this decision will raise their voices in a peaceful manner."
