Police Commission Named- But What Will They Do?

The Springfield Board of Police Commissioners is publicly expressing frustration with City Hall.

Members met with the Springfield City Council on Monday, and said they are not getting administrative support, which is hindering the commission's ability to follow a federal consent decree.

Mayor Domenic Sarno, who opposed an effort from the City Council to restore the dormant commission, was required by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to bring it back earlier this year.

Public Safety Committee chairman Victor Davila expressed concern that the commission is being set up to fail.

A discussion on the Police Commission is on the agenda for the full City Council on October 5th.
