Springfield's Parade of the Big Balloons isn't happening this year due to a worldwide helium shortage.
Mayor Domenic Sarno said supply-chain issues have made it challenging to organize the Thanksgiving event "with the same level of excellence" as traditions like Bright Nights at Forest Park and the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast.
Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt said the nonprofit is trying to find "new and affordable opportunities" to bring the community together.
Bright Nights at Forest Park kicks off on Thanksgiving through New Year's day.
