SJC Asked To Reinstate Criminal Charges In Pandemic Deaths Of Veterans

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court is considering a request from the attorney general's office to reverse the dismissal of criminal neglect charges against the former superintendent and medical director of the Holyoke Soldiers' Home.

The charges had been filed in connection to the deaths of dozens of veterans at the facility from a coronavirus outbreak in 2020.

A Hampden County judge had determined there was not enough evidence that the actions taken by Bennett Walsh and Dr. David Clinton amounted to a crime.

The state Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Wednesday.

A decision from the high court is expected within the next 90 days.
