Officer Involved Shooting In Springfield Remains Under Investation

The Hampden County District Attorney's Office continues to investigate a weekend Trooper Involved fatal shooting near the MGM Casino.

A spokesman for the District Attorney says that early Saturday morning the suspect was apparently aggressive toward patrons at the casino and left the casino- but was soon spotted down the street where a pursuit was undertaken.

"The initial stages of the investigation show a foot pursuit ensuing when contact was made with the individual. During the pursuit shots were fired and exchanged between the individual and responding officers. The individual was struck during this exchange resulting in officers requesting an ambulance and rendering medical aid. The individual was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield where he later passed away."

The District Attorney is not speculating as to how long the investigation will take.

Springfield Mayor Dom Sarno, while not commenting on the actual shooting said that it is another indication where repeat gun violence has to be dealt with more harshly by the court system.
