No Notice- Mayor Asks Governor To Reconsider Homeless Transfer

Springfield Mayor Dom Sarno is calling on the Governor to reconsider a move that places 30 homeless families, with no ties to western Massachusetts in a hotel in downtown Springfield. The mayor says that the city got little notice for the move.

The State Street Holiday Inn Express has been chosen by the state. It is directly across the street from the Mass Mutual Center and a short walk to the MGM Casino.

The mayor says the city is fighting every day to deal with the homeless issue in the city and the addition of 30 families means the fight just got bigger.

Sarno is also less than thrilled with the lack of notice. He says the city was made aware of the move late in the day Friday. Sarno is asking the Governor to reconsider the move.

So far there has been no comment from the Governor’s Office.
