New Director Named To Help Clergy Abuse Victims

Springfield Catholic Bishop William Byrne introduced the new director of the Office of Safe Environment and Victim Assistance on Tuesday.

The position was filled by Michael Collins, a Springfield social worker who has worked in the state foster care system for 26 years.

Previous director Jeffrey Trant left for a new job with the Children's Advocacy Center of Franklin County and North Quabbin.

The Springfield Diocese is encouraging anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse by church officials to contact the office.
