A Confederate flag was recently displayed at a Massachusetts Department of Transportation project on Route 2 in Fitchburg.
The owner of Garrity Asphalt Reclaiming, a Bloomfield, Connecticut-based subcontractor, apologized in a statement.
MassDOT says such displays are prohibited and ordered that the flag that had been raised by a company employee be taken down.
