Border Tolls In Western Mass? Maybe

Worcester state Senator Robyn Kennedy is endorsing the concept of placing tolls at or near the state's border crossings.

Kennedy has filed an amendment to the proposed Senate budget that would have the state seek federal approval to install border tolls.

She says it's not fair that a small section of the population have to pay most of the tolls in the state.

In a statement to WHYN News last night the Senator says:

"The amendment is to seek federal approval for all interstate highways that do not currently have tolls. Everything should be on the table as we seek sustainable, equitable funding for our highway infrastructure. We need to invest in all our highways and the drivers along the Massachusetts Turnpike cannot and should not continue to carry the majority of tolling alone."

Senate President Karen Spilka says she's open to the discussion, saying the current toll system is not fair at all.
