37 year old Patrolman Richard McEvoy suffered and declined until he died March 24, 1982 nearly ten years after being shot on September 14th, 1971. He was paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. Patrolman McEvoy and the police chief were investigating a suspicious man standing outside of a gas station at 232 East Main Street, in East Brookfield. The chief was also shot and wounded during the incident.
