An internal investigation is being conducted after a Springfield police officer allegedly left a controversial Facebook comment in response to events in Charlottesville, Virginia this weekend.
Specifically, the officer was responding to a story about a driver plowing into counter-protesters at the white supremacist rally, saying "love this, maybe people shouldn't block the roads."
Lariviere has issued a statement to The Springfield Republican expressing remorse and calling his comment "stupid."
Springfield Police Commissioner John Barbieri says the incident may be reviewed by the Community Police Hearings Board.
