When Consistency Doesn't Mean Much Any More

I was just sitting there with some others in the restaurant listening to the table next to us talk about "global warming and how horrible it was."

The group was on a roll, explaining that plastic and straws were bad for the environment and we need to do something before it is too late.

The waitress stopped by their table to take their drink order and then ours.

She came back to make the deliveries of the drinks and asked the table across the way if they would like straws. They grunted the word "no".

The nice waitress came across the way and delivered my diet beverage.

"Would you like a plastic straw?"

“Yes, two straws please.”

This did not get me blasted at all surprisingly.

However at the end of the night, the same group that blasted straws and plastic, took home their leftovers in Styrofoam and plastic containers.

They thought nothing of that.

Can someone help me understand the consistency of that evening?
