Believing Will Go A Long Way Right Now

I don’t do inspiration well. I can do facts. Tell the story. And move on to the next story. Emotions, not so much---although I am told that I do a pretty good speech for people with stripes on before a game.

There are some inspirational things that happen. Small things that happen that make you think that somehow things will get better.

There are the neighbors on a suburban street who haven’t spoken for years that say “hi, are you ok? Can I do anything for you?”

A teen helps an elderly woman.

A man helps a teen understand that there is a tomorrow.

A lot of bad things lead to a lot of good things. We see that it is in Holyoke that the churches are getting together to do something in their own way to try to make things better.

During shift changes at Holyoke Medical Center churches are ringing a bell in support of the amazing first responders that are on the front lines everyday. They ring at seven a.m., three p.m., and seven p.m., in a show of support for healthcare personnel, first responders and others who are considered critical to the fight against the coronavirus.

So far First Lutheran Church and Our Lady of the Cross have signed on to the effort.

But maybe all churches, everywhere, in every city, in every state need to do this to show those tired souls that people care and are routing for them.

Will it change anything? No. But it will show humans ---that other humans care.

“I believe for every drop of rain that falls

A flower grows

I believe that somewhere in the darkest night

A candle glows

I believe for everyone who goes astray someone will come

To show the way

I believe, I believe”

Ervin Drake, Irvin Graham, Jimmy Shirl and Al Stillman wrote that during the Korean War era as a way to offer hope to people who had already went through World War Two.

Frankie Laine was among the singers who brought the song to America. There were others.

Maybe that’s all what we need to do--

Believe.
